Outlook wisely does not automatically display/download images embedded in HTML emails. Is there way to modify this policy site-wide (group policy or something), so everyone will see images that are from a whitelist of domains (think internal domains)? If you have an Exchange account, check with your admin about how to access your archived email. If you want to back up the message folders locally (in addition to keeping them on the server), you can automatically move or delete older items with AutoArchive or export the items to a.pst file that you can restore later as needed and use.

How to turn off auto bullet or numbering in Outlook?

By default, when you type 1. or * in an email body and press the Space or the Enter key, the 1. or * you have typed in will be automatically numbered or bulleted. If you don’t want them to be automatically bulleted or numbered, you need to turn this auto format feature off.

Turn off auto bullet or numbering in Outlook

You can turn off auto bullet or numbering in Outlook as follows.

Step 1. Open the Outlook Options dialog box.

1. In Outlook 2010 and 2013, please click File > Options.

2. If you are using Outlook 2007, please click Tools > Options.

Step 2. Open the Editor Options dialog box.

1. In Outlook 2010 and 2013, please click the Mail in the left bar, and then click the Spelling and Autocorrect button in the Compose messages section.

2. In the Options dialog box in Outlook 2007, please click the Spelling and AutoCorrection button under Spelling tab.

Step 3. In the Editor Options dialog box, click the Proofing in the left bar, and then click the AutoCorrect Options button in the AutoCorrect options section. See screenshot:

Step 4. In the AutoCorrect dialog box, please go to the AutoFormat As You Type tab, and the uncheck the Automatic bulleted lists and the Automatic numbered lists boxes in the Apply as you type section. And then click the OK button. See screenshot:

Step 5. Click the OK buttons to close all dialog boxes to finish the whole settings.

From now on, the 1. Or * you type in the email body won’t be automatically numbered or bulleted any more.

Note: If you want to auto-insert the numbered or bulleted list from the Message tab, this method will not take effect.

  Please tell us how to stop Outlook from inserting 'right hand Arrows' when creating numbered lists. The arrows appear between the '1. --- ' and the beginning of the sentence. Imagine an arrow in place of the dashed line in the previous sentence. It looks really stupid to say the least and prevent my office staff from creating numbered lists.

  The very worst thing about Outlook is this auto formatting, guessing has wasted at least 25 hours of my life trying to turn this off. When I put in a 1. want it to do nothing and let me number. BTW it does a terrible job of auto formatting and hence why have tried so hard to turn it off.
  This article does not work it is out of date, there simply is no 'File'. Please explain how to turn it off with current version of Outlook. Again there is no 'File' to open the menu of. At the bottom of the page there is 7 icon choices, but none that says 'no auto formatting' Please help anyone on how to tirn off teh formatting on numbers now in 2018. Thank you

  Good day. On my work Outlook, whenever I create a bulleted list, these ANNOYING arrows show up and for the life of me I cannot figure out how to get rid of them.
  Can someone help me figure this out?!

    Hi G. Reynolds, have you found out how to remove the annoying arrows the appear after each bullet or number when you try to create lists inside of Outlook? I too have the exact same problem and haven't been able to figure out how to turn it off. Let me know if you were successful. Thanks, P.Nunn
